Service and Tune up

Take care of your vintage BMW motorcycle, and it will take care of you. Vintage BMW motorcycles are “hands on” and require regular maintenance to keep them reliably running down the road. Often we advise customer that the best thing you can do for your vintage BMW motorcycle is to complete a service every year. At Barrington Motor Works we offer multiple options for the vintage BMW owner to chose from when considering how best to care for their motorcycle.

 

Vintage one Service

The Vintage One Service is Barrington Motor Works basic service for any /3, /2 and single cylinder motorcycle. During this service the engine, transmission, swing arm (if applicable) and final drive fluid will be drained and refilled to spec with fresh fluid. Additionally, all fasteners are checked for correct torque, brake function and adjustment are confirmed, tire condition is evaluated and air pressure is set, clutch engagement adjustment is checked, and all lighting and signal equipment function is confirmed. All bikes are then test ridden.

Vintage two Service

The Vintage Two Service is a comprehensive service designed to refresh any /3, /2 or single cylinder motorcycle, and bring the state of tune up to factory standards. During this service the engine, transmission, swing arm (if applicable) and final drive fluids will be drained and refilled to spec with fresh oil. Next, the motorcycle head torque, rocker arm float and valve clearances will be checked and adjusted as needed. Further, the ignition points gap and static timing will be checked and adjusted. Lastly, the motorcycle will be run to operating temperature where the carburetor balance and synchronization will be checked and adjusted, and the dynamic ignition timing will be confirmed. All fasteners are checked for correct torque, brake function and adjustment are confirmed, tire condition is evaluated and air pressure is set, clutch engagement adjustment is checked, and all light and signal equipment function is confirmed. All bikes are then test ridden.

Classic one service

The Classic One Service is a basic service for any /5 or /6 model BMW motorcycle. During this service the engine oil and oil filter is changed using the correct gasket and seal combinations specific to each model. Additionally, the transmission, swing arm and final drive fluid is drained and refilled to factory specification. Lastly, all fasteners are checked for correct torque, brake function and adjustment are confirmed, tire condition is evaluated and air pressure is set, clutch engagement adjustment is checked, and all lighting and signal equipment function is confirmed. All bikes are then test ridden.

Basic Oil Change

Barrington Motor Works offers basic oil change service. For a vintage BMW /3, /2 or single cylinder motorcycle the engine oil is drained and refilled to spec. For a classic BMW /5 or /6 motorcycle the engine oil is drain and refilled to spec and the oil filter is replaced. Each motorcycle is brought up to operating temperature and the oil level confirmed. All fasteners are checked for correct torque, brake function and adjustment are confirmed, tire condition is evaluated and air pressure is set, clutch engagement adjustment is checked, and all light and signal equipment function is confirmed. All bikes are then test ridden.

TIRE MOUNT AND BALANCE

Barrington Motor Works provides tire mounting and balancing services for any vintage BMW motorcycle. Our tire mounting and balancing service utilizes hand tools and static balancers to minimize damage to your motorcycle’s wheels. Mounting and balancing of new tires can be performed with the delivery of the motorcycle, or delivery of the wheels only. We offer tires and tubes from Heidenau, but are happy to install any tires and tubes provided by the customer. All fasteners are checked for correct torque, brake function and adjustment are confirmed, tire condition is evaluated and air pressure is set, clutch engagement adjustment is checked, and all light and signal equipment function is confirmed. All bikes are then test ridden.
